The Holocaust Centre kindly loaned their ‘In Our Hands’ Community Holocaust Education Display to Engage Training & Development Ltd on Duke Street for the week commencing Monday 23rd February.
Learners aged 14 to 19 viewed the exhibition and on Wednesday they discussed the exhibition with Clare Phillips & Joy Clarke, two of the In Our Hands Volunteers responsible for the design of the exhibition and who accompany it around schools, libraries and other public buildings.
Pre 16 learners have started some work around extremism following their viewing of the exhibition.
Because they struggled with the scale of the genocide, teacher Trish Allen printed out 1 000 000 dots on 178 sheets of A3 paper and displayed them in a continuous line around the building.
Comments from learners.
“It’s sick …. Why?” “speechless!!!” “I didn’t know this had happened” “learned a lot from this … didn’t know it wasn’t just jews”
