How to convince your boss to hire apprentices
Apprentices can bring a lot to businesses, but sometimes your HR Managers just don’t appreciate this and are unaware of the extent of these benefits and with this in mind avoid work based learning programmes because they believe it will cause so much trouble and cost tons of staff time and knowledge!
Well now is your time to shine as you have a responsibility to show bosses and colleagues the first-hand benefits of hiring apprentices!
Here are some top tips to share, if they need convincing:
- Explain that apprentices can be trained in exactly the skills the company needs. With no preconceived ideas or bad habits, the apprentice is perfect for moulding into your ideal employee.
- Show how apprenticeships will let the company pass skills on from one generation of employees down to the next. Senior members of staff can give new apprentices practical training, passing the baton, so to speak.
- Show how training an apprentice can provide existing employees with development opportunities for themselves. This could be by mentoring new apprentices or refreshing their own skills.
- Send HR staff into schools to give career talks outlining future options. This will counter the lack of knowledge surrounding apprenticeships which can often discourage young people.
